St. Francis Xavier Church is probably best for elderly individuals who prefer a very traditional, antiquated service and community and definitely NOT for young and/or modern Catholics. I photographed a wedding here recently and the Pastor, Father Tim Baltes, approached me after the ceremony and got in my face and yelled at me (right in front of the couple) for the "clicking sound" my camera makes even though I was very discreet and professional during the service. The videographer (a family friend asked by the bride's mother to hold a video camera) also ran into trouble with Mark Levandowski, the music director, who pointed at him during the ceremony and mouthed the words "you're done." He then attempted to haul him out while he was praying, telling him "Get out. We have enough cameras in here." I have never seen such disrespect for a guest at a wedding in my entire life! If you're looking for a Draconian, fire and brimstone-type church then consider St. Francis, otherwise it's probably best to steer clear and keep looking.

I just read the review of St Francis and had to question it. Odds are very good that there were overzealos photographers that were becoming a distraction to what was really important. Most Churches are more than willing to accomodate some photography but all to often the photgraphers, and those taking video think they take precedence over everyone else. I've seen it happen... and it can ruin a wedding. When it gets to the point where they have to be asked to back off there's a problem... and any professional photographer should know enough to check with not only what the expectations are of the couple being married, but also any limitations that may be put on them by the venue.
I've been a member of this parish for several years and have been a part of one of the music ensembles.... as for it being a Church for old people... I'd agree we've got a great group of people that can cater to the elderly .... as for it not being a Church for the young... I I can only say that you need to attend the services. We've got a great adult choir that is fully capable of doing justice to the most beautiful traditional hymns... and another group (that I'm in) that I'd say is about as modern as you can get.... I mean how many Catholic Churches out there have Drums, Bass and a guy with a Les Paul and a Marshall stack? Of course all that is secondary, when in truth it's about what a great community we have, and what we can do in Christs name as a community. I've no problems with Father Tim, Mark, or any of the rest Staff at SFX. Quite honestly I think we're lucky to have them.Added November 06, 2016 by J Kirchner - ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
